What marketing in Canada actually looks like
Canada punishes sloppy marketing operations more than any other market we work in, because CASL is the strictest anti-spam regime in the world and it has teeth. Consent has to be express or demonstrably implied, it has to be recorded, and it expires. A CRM that cannot prove when and how someone opted in is not a minor gap here, it is exposure.
The second Canadian reality is market size against ambition. A domestic market of forty million with immediate access to a market of three hundred and forty million means most serious Canadian B2B companies are selling into the US early. That is an infrastructure problem: two regulatory regimes, two currencies, often two sets of messaging, running through one team and one stack.
Our Canadian engagements usually start with the consent and data layer, because it is both the biggest risk and the thing that blocks everything else. From there it is the same work as anywhere: a stack that holds together, execution that ships, and reporting that tells you which of your two markets is actually paying.
Canadian compliance we build around
Marketing systems that ignore local rules become expensive later. These are built into what we deliver rather than added when something goes wrong.
- CASL, properly implemented: express versus implied consent tracked per contact, expiry dates on implied consent, and unsubscribe handling that works within the statutory window.
- Consent evidence that would survive scrutiny, including source, timestamp, wording shown and the record of what changed since.
- PIPEDA obligations for personal information, and provincial regimes where they apply.
- Quebec Law 25, which is the one most companies miss until it bites: consent, privacy-by-default and French-language requirements for material aimed at Quebec.
We build systems that respect these rules. We are not a law firm, and where you need formal legal advice we will tell you.

Working with Sprinta from Canada
Do you build CASL-compliant marketing systems?
Yes, and in Canada we start there. Express and implied consent are tracked separately per contact, implied consent carries its expiry, every consent event is evidenced, and unsubscribes are honoured inside the statutory window. Most stacks we inherit cannot demonstrate any of that.
Can you support marketing into both Canada and the US?
That is the common case. We build one stack that respects both regimes rather than two half-systems, which means consent rules, suppression and reporting are segmented by jurisdiction instead of averaged into a mess.
Do you handle French-language requirements?
We build for them structurally, so French versions of customer-facing material are a first-class part of the system rather than an afterthought, and we work with professional translators for the language itself. Machine-translated French aimed at Quebec is a bad idea legally and commercially.
What time zones do you cover for Canadian clients?
Atlantic through Pacific. Toronto and Montreal clients get full working-day overlap; Vancouver clients get the full afternoon, and we schedule standing calls accordingly.
